Dr. Mark Franklin Hartley

Dr. Mark Franklin Hartley, age 89, of Waverly, TN, passed away Thursday, May 22, 2014, in Humphreys County Nursing Home in Waverly. Dr. Hartley was born December 19, 1924, in Vardaman, MS, to James Franklin and Mable Burke Hartley. He was married to Patricia Jean Oliphant Hartley. Dr. Hartley graduated from Vardaman High School, Ole Miss University in Mississippi, and earning his Doctorate of Medicine from the University of Tennessee in Memphis. He was a longtime Family Practice Physician in Sardis, MS and Waverly. He loved treating athletes, ministers, and fellow physicians of all fields, at no charge for his services. Dr. Hartley was a member of the American Medical Assoc., Mississippi Medical Assoc., Tennessee Medical Assoc., Elks Lodge and Lions Club in Mississippi, former Medical Examiner for Humphreys County, former Medical Director of Three Rivers Hospital, and Waverly Central High School Tiger Athletic Physician from 1975 to 1995. He was a member of Waverly First Baptist Church and a Sunday School teacher. He was an avid fisherman and gardener. Visitation with the family will be Sunday, May 25, 2014, from 4-8 p.m., and Monday, May 26, 2014, from 10 a.m. until funeral service time at 1 p.m., at the Luff-Bowen Funeral Home in Waverly, TN. Dr. Richard Bray will be officiating the service. Interment will follow in the Collier Cemetery in Waverly, TN. Active pallbearers will be Dr. Louis Anderson, L. M. Sceals, Bill White, Phil Daniel, Ray Hampton, Jr., and John Dampf.
