Carolyn Ann Averitt

February 20, 1948 — July 8, 2016

Mrs. Carolyn Ann Averitt, age 68, of Clarksville, TN, passed away Friday, July 8, 2016, at her residence, surrounded by her family.  She was born February 20, 1948 in Nashville, the daughter of Coralene Forster Harris of Centerville, TN. She is also preceded in death by her grandparents, William Omer and Nellie Inez Forster.  She lived many years in McEwen, TN until moving to Clarksville 8 years ago to be closer to her family.  She is a 1966 graduate of McEwen High School and earned an associate degree at Redlands College in Redlands, OK.  Carolyn had been employed for over 30 years with Highland Rim Head Start.  She began her career as a Teacher’s Aide and advanced to a Teacher, Manager and Facilities Administrator before retiring in 2014.  She was an active member of Hilldale church of Christ where she was involved in the World Bible School, and the nursery.  She loved to travel but especially loved her family and grandchildren.  In addition to her mother, she is survived by her husband Thomas Patrick “Pat” Averitt, to whom she was married for fourty-seven years.  She is also survived by 2 sons, Sean Averitt& wife Mesha of Clarksville and Todd Averitt & wife Jenifer of Clarksville.  She is also survived by 2 brothers Clyde Layman Harris & Tess of Ashland City; Gary Harris & Maryann of Fairview; and a sister Joyce Rosson & Larry of Centerville. She is survived by 4 grandchildren, Olivia, Madison, Patrick, and Ella Averitt as well as many dear family members.  Funeral services will be conducted on Tuesday, July 12, 2016, at 2:00 P.M., at the Luff-Bowen Funeral Home in McEwen, where friends may visit from 12 noon until the services on Tuesday.  Officiating at the service will be Brother Steve Kirby and Brother Jeff Keele.  Burial will be in the Meadowlawn Cemetery in McEwen.   There will be a visitation on Monday from 4-8 P.M. at Gateway Funeral Home in Clarksville.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Vanderbilt Ingram Cancer Center (breast cancer division).   Arrangements are under the care of Gateway Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 335 Franklin Street  Clarksville, TN  37040.  Phone 931-919-2600. Local arrangements are entrusted to:LUFF-BOWEN FUNERAL HOME9729 Hwy. 70 EastMcEwen, TN 37101Telephone 931-582-6271Obituary Line 931-296-3500
