Jessie "Hank" Cathey

Mr. Jessie Carter “Hank” Cathey, age 94, of Waverly, TN passed away Sunday, July 2, 2017 at Centennial Medical Center in Nashville. Mr. Cathey was born on July 26, 1922 in Paris, TN to the late William Washington and Mattie Coy Cathey. Mr. Cathey enlisted in the US Navy in 1942 and served through the end of the war aboard the USS Louisville, a heavy cruiser, in the South Pacific. He was a mechanic with the civil service in Iceland. Mr. Cathey was married to the late Geneva “Polly” Mai Cathey for 59 years. He was a member of Cedar Grove Baptist Church and a 3rd Degree Master Mason with the Hillman Lodge #431 F&AM.   Survivors include: Daughters: Pat Bos (George) of New Johnsonville Wilma Dyer (Michael) of Waverly Rosemary Young  of Waverly Tena Woods (Wayne) of New Johnsonville Nephew: Paul Franklin of Texas Nieces: Lucille Brown of Louisiana Bernice Bradford of Paris, TN 8 Grandchildren 18 Great-Grandchildren 1 Great-Great Grandchild He was preceded in death by his wife Geneva Mai Cathey and son William Boyd Cathey. Visitation with the family will be Wednesday, July 5, 2017 from 4pm-8pm with Masonic rites at 7pm and Thursday July 6, from 10am-1pm. Funeral service for Mr. Jessie Hank Cathey will be on Thursday July 6, 2017 at 1:00pm at Luff-Bowen Funeral Home in Waverly officiated by Rev EG Mullinax. Interment will follow in the Willhite-Cathey Cemetery in Hurricane Mills, TN with military honors.   In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to: Tennessee Children’s Home ℅ Cedar Grove Baptist Church PO Box 183 Waverly, TN 37185  OR  Vietnam Veterans Chapter 1053 ℅ Michael Dyer 107 Cherokee Dr Waverly, TN 37185.
