Betty Lou Harvey

Betty Lou Harvey, age 86 of McEwen, TN passed away Friday, March 3, 2023, at Three Rivers Hospital surrounded by her family. Betty was born in Warren, MI on March 15, 1936, to the late James Thomas Mathews, Sr. and Edna Mae Shaver Mathews. Betty was a devoted Christian and a lifelong member of Glenwood United Methodist Church. She enjoyed sewing and feeding birds. She loved all people and never met a stranger. Betty will be remembered by her family as a loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt and friend.

Left to cherish her memory are her 5 children, Debbie Smith of Waverly, TN, Jackie Harvey (Sherry) of McEwen, TN, Belinda May (Jim) of Hurricane Mills, TN, Tommy Harvey (Kelley) of McEwen, TN and Brian Harvey (Kim) of Waverly; 12 grandchildren, Johnathan Baker (Laural), Jennifer Gatlin (Charlie), Thomas Harvey, James Harvey (Taylor), John Baker, Jr., Mathew Harvey, Olivia Cunningham (Dylan), Morgan Palmer (Hannah), Kamron Jones, Corbin Jones, Aaron Harvey and Brianna Harvey (Tyler); 12 great grandchildren, Christian Ballard, Molly Baker, Mayah Baker, Jacey Gatlin, Oakley Gatlin, Elizabeth Baker, Tiera Carrington, Matthew Carrington, Austin Carrington, Drake Carrington, Allen Trevino and Teya Trevino; 4 great great grandchildren, Grace Carrington, Grayson Carrington, Aubree Palmer, and Gage Palmer; sister, Lois Carson; and brother, Buddy Mathews and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Along with her parents, Betty is preceded in death by her husband, James Melvin Harvey, Sr.; daughter, Anita Baker; grandchildren, James M. Harvey III and Chris Baker; great grandchild, Eliza Gatlin; sisters, Iona Hams, Vera Hartsell, Edith Bullington and Pauline Brown; brothers, Thomas Mathews, Richard Mathews, Wally Mathews and Donnie Mathews.

Visitation for Ms. Betty will be held on Sunday, March 5, 2023 at 5:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. at Luff-Bowen in Waverly and on Monday, March 6, 2023 at 10:00 A.M. until the time of service beginning at 1:00 P.M. Officiating will be Bro. Joel Nulty. Interment to follow at the Harvey Family Cemetery in McEwen, TN.
