In Loving Memory William ‘Bill’ Harris Hendrix May 23rd, 1939 - August 31st, 2021 William “Bill” Harris Hendrix, age 82, of McEwen passed away peacefully on August 31st, 2021 at Williamson County Medical Center in Franklin, Tennessee. Bill was born in May 23, 1939 in McEwen Tennessee, to Finis and Jewel Holland Hendrix. Growing up in McEwen where he was an avid football player and fan, he later attended Austin Peay State University and subsequently earned a Masters degree in Biology from Peabody College in Nashville. In 1966, Bill returned home to McEwen where he enthusiastically began work as a health teacher and football coach at McEwen High School. In this role, he not only won accolades and titles, but also devotedly served the kids he taught and coached opening his heart and home to help them beyond the classroom and field. In 1973 Bill began a long and successful 48 year career with State Farm Insurance working as both an agent and manager, of which he spent 30 years working side by side with his wife Anita Hendrix. He was able to utilize his coaching skills as an effective team leader mentoring and helping the career development of countless agents. His contributions and hard work were recognized as he was named one of the Top Ten Managers with State Farm and with the help of his dedicated long time team, including Lisa McLemore and Christy Brotzman, qualified for the Ambassadors Club a remarkable 26 years. In 1996, Bill and Anita returned to McEwen where he found great joy in working as a volunteer football coach and supporting the kids of McEwen. When not working hard at the office or on the field, Bill could be found supporting McEwen, the Tennessee Vols or Titans with his kids, grandkids and friends. Bill was a proud parent, strong mentor, leader and dedicated coach who will be missed by all those blessed to know him. Coach Bill Hendrix is survived by his loving wife, Anita Kay (Wells) Hendrix of Franklin, Tennessee and daughters Phyllis Knox (Wally Knox) and Melanie Watts (Shankar LeVine) and sons Matt Hendrix (Megan Hendrix) and Chris Hooper (Lindsey Hooper). He is survived by twelve grandchildren, Bo Knox (Kendall Knox) , Tucker Knox, Jessica Knox, Kimmi Knox, Olivia Hendrix, Adelaide Hendrix, Avra Hendrix, Luca LeVine, Nora LeVine, Aiden Hooper, Lakynn Hooper, and Ryder Hooper and Great-Grandchildren Wallace Knox and Amelia Knox. He is also survived by brother Edward ‘Eddie’ Hendrix and sister-in- law Pat Hendrix. Bill was predeceased by sister, Willene Hatcher, and brother Woodrow ‘Woody’ Hendrix. Visitation will be held Friday, September 3rd, from 3-6pm at Luff-Bowen Funeral Home, 9729 Hwy 70 E, McEwen, TN. A memorial service will be held the following day on Saturday, September 4th at 11am, preceded by visitation from 10-11am, at McEwen High School Football Field, 335 Melrose St, McEwen, TN. Interment to follow at McEwen Cemetery. The service will be officiated by L. C. Nolen and Arthur Walker. Pallbearers to include Warren Patterson, George Brantley, Wayne Rachford, Chris Hooper, Bo Knox, Tucker Knox, Johnny Shanks, and Phillip Martin. THE FAMILY REQUIRES ALL VISITORS PLEASE WEAR A MASK AND PRACTICE SOCIAL DISTANCING AT LUFF-BOWEN FUNERAL HOME AND MCEWEN HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL FIELD.
