Gloria Ann Smith

Gloria Ann Smith, age 83, went to be with Jesus on Monday, June 3, 2024 at Maple Ridge
Assisted Living Home in Dyersburg, Tennessee, surrounded by her loved ones. Gloria was
born on August 2, 1940, in Williamson County, TN, to the late Luther and Laura Daugherty
Mangrum. She moved to Humphreys County at the age of 6. Gloria, known also as Granny by
her grandchildren, married William L. (Billy) Smith in 1959. Gloria was a devoted member of
Oak Grove Baptist Church in McEwen, Tennessee, up until her move into the assisted living
home in Dyersburg, TN.
Gloria loved spending time with her family. She especially enjoyed holidays when everyone was
together. Her face lit up when any of her grandchildren were around. Her hobbies included
working with her roses and irises, gardening and knitting. In the summers, she could always be
found riding the tractor with Billy, her one true love. She loved spending time with Billy, no
matter what they were doing.
Gloria’s professional life was marked by her dedication as a full-time housewife and mother for
many years. In the early 80’s, Gloria made the decision to go to work for Walmart in Waverly,
TN. Although it was obvious that Gloria enjoyed interacting with people every day; as her
children grew older, they realized that her going back to work helped to make their college
educations possible.
Gloria is survived by her husband Billy of 64 years, one brother, Randal Mangrum of McEwen,
TN, two children, Jerry (Pamela) Smith of Fayetteville, AR and Brenda Joy (Paul) Norman of
Dyersburg, TN, three grandchildren, Bethany (Josh) Melcher of Springdale, AR, Hunter
(Londyn) Norman and Jared Norman of Dyersburg, TN, and two great grandchildren, Abigail
and Elijah Melcher of Springdale, AR.
Gloria is preceded in death by her parents, Luther and Laura Mangrum, Patricia Ann
Smith(daughter), Gerald Mangrum(brother), and Margaret Mangrum (sister-in-law).
The visitation for Gloria will be held on Saturday, June 8, 2024, from 1:00p.m. until 3:00p.m. with
the Celebration of Life beginning at 3:00 p.m. at Luff-Bowen Funeral Home in Waverly, TN.
Rev. David Deavers will officiate the service. Interment will follow the service at Oak Grove
Baptist Cemetery in McEwen, TN. Pallbearers are going to be, Jeff Breeden, Lee Curtis, Barry Mangrum,
Steve May, Jared Norman, and Hunter Norman. Honorary Pallbearers are Larry Craig and Ronnie Dacus.
