John Henry James

October 15, 1943 — August 17, 2021

Mr. John Henry James, age 77, of New Johnsonville, TN, passed away Tuesday, August 17, 2021, at Three Rivers Hospital in Waverly, TN. John was born October 15, 1943, in Nashville, TN, to A. Randolph and Gertrude Rushton James. He was married to Jane Barr James for 55 years. John was a faithful member of the New Johnsonville Church of Christ. John worked as a Maintenance Mechanic for 25 years for Consolidated Aluminum Corporation in New Johnsonville, TN and 20 years for Wabash Alloys in Dickson, TN. He served for 12 years as a Councilman for New Johnsonville, serving as Vice-Mayor for 2 years. He was a Charter Member of the Humphreys County Junior J. C.'s. He also served on the Humphreys County Solid Waste Board. He was a Past Member of the New Johnsonville Lions Club and enjoyed grilling for the fundraising events. John loved deer, duck, and turkey hunting, rafting, 4-wheeling, water skiing, boating, and just spending the day on the lake or in the woods under a big tree. His favorite thing was fishing, especially with his friends, the Kentucky Lake Bass Anglers and the Humphreys County Bass Club. At retirement, he and Jane set out to see all 50 states and enjoyed cruises to several countries. The best time of his life was the grandchildren. He loved to take them out to breakfast, drive them to the Reserves and taught them to fish and shoot, enjoyed watching them play ball, and grow into young adults. He also was blessed to spend some time with a great grandson. Life was good, even after he was diagnosed with FTD Dementia, he still enjoyed a full life. He just enjoyed it in a different way. He loved the music and dancing with the ladies, being in his big leather recliner watching Andy and Barney with his buddy "Pop." John will always be remembered for his sweet, kind spirit and his smile. We'll always miss you PaPaw. "Go Fishing" Visitation with the family will be Wednesday, August 25, 2021, from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., and Thursday, August 26, 2021, from 11:00 a.m. until funeral service time at 1:00 p.m., at the Luff-Bowen Funeral Home in Waverly.
