Larry William Zills, age 80, a beloved member of the community passed away on August 6, 2024 surrounded by his family at his residence in New Johnsonville, TN. He was born on November 24, 1943, in Russellville, AL to the late Velma Irene Johnson Zills and Emmitt Phillip Zills. Larry lived a remarkable life filled with love, dedication, and service. A devoted family man, Larry cherished the moments spent with his grandchildren and adored his great grandson, River. His family meant everything to him, and always made sure they knew with his love and support. Larry's presence brought joy and warmth to all those around him. In addition to his role within his family, Larry was a prominent member of the Ebenezer Methodist Church. His faith was central to his being, and he found solace and community within the walls of the church. Larry also had a distinguished military career, serving his country for 40 years, and earned the title of Master Sergeant. He bravely fought during Desert Storm and in combat, demonstrating his unwavering courage and commitment to serving others. Outside of his family and military service, Larry had a passion for various hobbies including fishing, hunting, gardening, and woodwork. These activities brought him peace and allowed him to showcase his creativity and skills. Larry William Zills will be remembered for his kind heart, unwavering dedication to his loved ones, and selfless service to his country. He leaves behind a legacy of love, faith, and resilience that will continue to inspire all those who were fortunate enough to know him.
Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 57 years, Lynda Manley Zills of New Johnsonville, TN; daughter, Yolanda Bradley of New Johnsonville, TN; son, Jason Zills (Kim) of Waverly, TN; grandchildren, Mallory Owens (Donovan), Alec Zills, John Bradley III, Bailee Bradley and Lindsay Zills; great-grandson, River; sisters, Diane Gandy, Paulette Harden, Laurelette Dill and Debbie Zills Hamilton. Larry is also survived by his special uncle, Glenn Johnson and numerous nieces and nephews.
Along with his parents, Larry was preceded in death by his son, Tommy Zills and brother, Phillip Zills.
A graveside service with Military Honors will be held on Tuesday, August 20, 2024 at 11:00 A.M. at the Methodist Cemetery in New Johnsonville, TN with Donna Paramore and Tom Johnson officiating.
