Mary Ann Fortner Smith

March 8, 1933 — May 4, 2022

With profound sadness, we announce the passing of Mrs. Mary Ann Fortner Smith, age 89, our loving mother, devoted grandmother, and friend to all whose lives she touched, on May 4, 2022. Since October, before her passing away peacefully, Mary Ann was cared for wonderfully by in-home hospice care, her family, and sweet friends. Mary Ann inspired many with her positive, cheerful outlook in happy anticipation of Heaven. Visitation will be held at Luff-Bowen Funeral Home in Waverly, on Monday, May 9, 2022, from 11:00 a.m. until funeral service time at 1:00 p.m. Bro Rick Rolin, Bro. Jeremy McFarlin, and Ronnie Hughes will be officiating the service. Burial will follow at Ebenezer Cemetery in New Johnsonville, TN. Mary Ann Fortner Smith was born March 8, 1933, in Humphreys County, a daughter of the late Paul and Florence Lescure Woods. Mary Ann was a member of Wildwood Valley Church of Christ in Hurricane Mills, TN, for 40 plus years. Mary Ann loved the Lord and spent her life serving Him. She enjoyed running her ladies' clothing boutique for many years. She enjoyed traveling the world with her late husband, Bobby, and her dear friends from church. Her greatest enjoyment was helping take care of her grandchildren, whom she loved dearly. Her grandchildren will tell you they truly had the Best Grandmother there was. Who else's grandmother would tell you scary stories? The memories she made with her grandchildren will forever be in their hearts. She truly was Grand. Mary Ann is survived by her children: Paulette (Walter) Bobeck of Manchester, TN and Cindy (Terry) Smith of McEwen, TN, grandchildren: Chad Davis, Angela (Jason) Beavers, Rusty (Christy) Johnson and Jessica French, great grandchildren: Dalton French, Chelsea Manley, Austin French, Blake Beavers, and Brayden Beavers, sister: Catherine Curtis, special friends: Joyce Long (sister) and Rene McCaslin. Mary Ann was preceded in death by parents: Paul and Florence Woods, husband of 53 years, Bobby Fortner, husband of 16 years, Earl Smith, brother: Wallace Woods, sister: Mildred Buchanan, son-in-law: Roy Davis, and grandson: Anthony Davis. The family would like to give a heartfelt thanks to the ladies who sat with our mother/grandmother when we could not be there, Betty, Sharon, Becky, Aletha, and Valerie, and to the Tennessee Quality Hospice of Camden, TN.
